Support Services for Holocaust Survivors and Their Families
Aging brings various challenging changes to one's life. Many of the struggles that survivors encounter daily inevitably bring up their Holocaust experiences and past losses. Jewish Family Service of North Jersey provides supportive services to Holocaust survivors and their families, which enable survivors to age-in-place, in their accustomed home environments, thereby preserving their dignity in the declining years of their lives. These services are supported by a grant through the Conference of Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Jewish Family Service provides consultation and training to local organizations, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care agencies, nurses, social workers, physicians and other professionals who work with Holocaust survivors. Training addresses the special needs and concerns of survivors. Strategies in working with this population are provided, especially sensitizing professionals to “triggers” that elicit traumatic responses.
